In our class, we
have taught and had fun with grade 2 students through google earth. At the
beginning, Mr. Barnes spoke about what will happen in lower school computer lab
with grade 2 students and how to respect them during the whole class. After
all, we went down to start it. Grade 2 students greet us with singing a song
face to face. When the song ended each of them chose their partner from our
classmates. But some of them had 2 partners because we had more people than them.
Anyway, the name of my partner was Bode and another partner from our class who
would teach him with me was Greg. Each of groups with 2 or 3 group mates
including my classmates and grade 2 students had their own assign seats to
begin.
First
of all, Greg and I checked which cities and location where Bode would tour. We
had to look for status of liberty and aquarium in New York City and dominator
and bank of Chicago theatre in Chicago. We search about New York City first
with google earth. Greg and I let Bode to work it alone sitting beside him and
we taught him how to tour his locations. We taught him how to put the tour mark
on his locations and change the icon and color of it. While working on the
google earth with Bode, he was not energetic and so quiet. That’s why Greg and
I were trying to be friendlier and to have more conversation with him. He was
also not used to type and move the mouse. So I was watching him while working
on his thing and helped him to type and move the mouse as fast as he can. Greg
and I were saying every each spelling and words when he typed for the
description of his locations. As time goes by, we were running out of time
because he was quiet slow on making his tour. So Greg and I typed some of the
description of the locations. But we still did not finish one location,
dominator in Chicago.
Actually,
it was my first time to teach someone individually. This kind of lesson is
useful and helped me to give more confidence in teaching. I also knew that Chicago
and New York City was away to far through google earth. Compare Bode to the
other grade 2 students, he was shy to converse with us. So Greg and I tried to
encourage and to make him comfortable but I think he enjoyed our class. However,
it was really great new experience and I hope we would have this kind of lesson
in the future lesson.
